Richard Cho

Rich was born in Korea but moved to Australia with his family when he was 5 years old.  He became a Christian when he was around 11, through the Sunday School ministry at the local Church.  He has been involved in various church ministries, including working with children, youth, leading Biblestudies and preaching.

Rich studied Physiotherapy at Sydney University working for a year at a public hospital.  He then worked as a Financial Planner for 3 years before entering Sydney Missionary and Bible College to complete his M.Div.  He gained a TESOL certificate before coming to the Thailand field.

He is married to Lisa and has three children.

Peter Passchier

Peter first came to Thailand as a post-atheistic drop-out interested in Buddhism in 1991. When meeting Jesus back in his hometown in The Netherlands in 1993 radically changed his life around, he knew God called him to serve Him abroad. Starting his formal education in Biblical and Intercultural studies in England took until 2002, and at the Bible college he met Kelly, so they finished their studies in 2004 during their first year of marriage. They came to Thailand in 2008 with their son Lukas who turned 2 just after arriving, and early 2009 their second son Emmet was born. They have lived in Lampang since July 2009.

Peter also has a Masters in Clinical Psychology and work experience in software engineering and network administration, and was involved in international student ministry the year before they came to Asia. The Passchier family website is: www.passchier.net

Tomoko Sakamoto

Tomoko is Japanese and was born into a nominal Buddhist family. When she went to the US as a high school exchange student, she came to know Jesus.

In 2002, she went to Bangkok and spent more than a year as a volunteer at a local church. She then went to England where she studied Biblical and Intercultural studies in order to prepare for long term mission work. Before she came back to Thailand in 2009, she worked in her home church in Japan teaching the Bible, both for adults and youth, as well as teaching English for children. Tomoko also has a BA degree in International Studies and has worked for World Vision (a Christian aid organization). She moved to Lampang in August 2010.

Trish Bekker

Trish comes from South Africa. She has a BA in English and Psychology and was working as the Human Resources manager for a re-insurance company when she left for Thailand. While working, Trish completed her Certificate in Theology at the Baptist Theological College of South Africa as an external student.

When Trish left the corporate world for Thailand, she was no less productive: Jonty, Emily, and Nina were all born during her first four years in Thailand. Today Trish divides her time between caring for her family and Lighthouse ministries.

Nick and Trish have been married for 16 years.

Lisa Cho

Lisa was born in Thailand while her parents were missionaries, returning to Australia at age 7. At 13 she opened her heart to the Lord. Over the years she felt conviction to serve the Lord in an overseas context, ministering to those who don’t know Jesus through whatever opportunities that arise. She has been involved in university ministries, outreach missions and church ministry, including youth and children.

Lisa studied Orthoptics at Sydney University after which she worked at several Ophthalmology practices. She completed her Diploma of Theology at Sydney Missionary and Bible College. Lisa is married to Rich and they have 3 gorgeous children.

Kelly Passchier

Kelly comes from Canada. She studied Microbiology and Immunology in Canada (BSc) after which she worked as a lab technician for some years. She then studied Biblical and Intercultural studies in England (BA) where she met her husband Peter who came there to study from the Netherlands. Peter & Kelly were married in 2003. They have two sons, Lukas (born in 2006 in Canada) and Emmet (born in 2009 in Thailand). Kelly moved to Thailand in 2008 with her family. Since moving to Lampang in July 2009 Kelly is currently busy raising her children, studying Thai language and culture, and helping with Kids Club at the Lighthouse centre.

Mandisa Makasi

Mandisa is a 34 year old South African who joined the Lampang Team at the end of October 2010. She is in Thailand for 2 years as a “Serve Thailand” worker discovering how God can use, grow and equip her for ministry in a cross-cultural context. Earlier, in 2008 she came to Thailand on a short term mission trip that led to her decision to return to "the Land of Smiles".

Mandisa has a postgraduate degree in Labour Relations and has worked as a Healthcare Consultant advising companies and employees on Health and Wellness issues. It was in this role that she came to realise the void in her own life and the need for spiritual fulfilment. She became a committed follower of Christ 6 years ago and as a result of her own struggles as a new believer has felt a strong calling to walk alongside new believers.
